Kaya Natin! Statement on HR 1109
We, the leaders of Kaya Natin! A National Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership wish to express our strong condemnation of House Resolution 1109 which will allow the House of Representatives to convene itself into a Constituent Assembly.
We believe that this is a blatant attempt by the present administration and its allies to perpetuate itself in power beyond 2010. Moreover, we believe that this goes against what majority of Filipinos want as seen by recent survey results that show majority of Filipinos are not amenable to any form of Charter Change before the 2010 National Elections. This will only continue to sow disunity among Filipinos in our already fragmented society.
Instead of focusing on amending the present Constitution, we believe that our lawmakers should go beyond their personal interests and give priority to ensuring the passage of policies and laws that would help improve the quality of life of majority of Filipinos such as the Extension and Reform of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARPER).
Finally, we appeal to all our lawmakers to live out what it truly means to be duly-elected representatives of their constituents by supporting and voting for what are the true sentiments and beliefs of their constituency.

To all Leaders of Kaya Natin! Movement,
As a Filipino citizen, I appreciate all your efforts in opposing Charter Change. I personally believe that cha-cha is being deliberately induced by some with ultimate personal interests.
The Filipino people deserve transparency and good governance.
